Beach Time

The hubby and I got back from a nice, relaxing vacation yesterday. Lots of fun and exciting things to share. But for now...I'm still on beach time. Check back soon for posts about the trip, my favorite photo session yet, and lots more.

Totally Random Post

They say that scent is the strongest scent tied to memory and I think I agree. I am not sure why but the other day out of the blue a body spray/perfume I used to wear in middle school popped into my mind. It was called Gingham Heartland from Bath and Body Works. My best friend and I both wore it and all the "cool" girls did too. I remember when I ran out my aunt bought me another bottle for my birthday.

Earlier in middle school, I wore Sunflowers. My other best friend turned me on to that one. And my little sister tried it out too so to this day the smell holds memories for me and I actually still have a bottle with a few drops left from a shopping trip not too long ago. In high school my boyfriend wore Polo Sport and to this day that smell takes me back a bit. During that time I wore Ralph Lauren Romance and love it still. On my wedding day I was into SJP's Lovely and the scent can transport me in an instant back to that day--it almost gives me butterflies.

Isn't it so neat how these simple things can teleport you back to a time and place? I'd give anything to find a bottle of Heartland somewhere(apparently I'm not the only one--bottles sell near $100 on ebay!)...I just know it'd bring back the fun days I spent with my buddy. I'm on the hunt for a new scent and it is fun to think that one day the notes will take me back to this time in my life. Do you have a scent that takes you back? I'd love to know!

Prayers + Love for Haiti

I am joining other bloggers today to dedicate my blog post to the residents of Haiti. After yesterdays massive earthquake my thoughts and prayers are with the people of this area. Sitting here safely in my office with all kinds of amenities makes me so grateful and it also saddens me to know that so many thousands of people of Haiti are not experiencing the same today.

Please join me most importantly in praying for the Haitian people, that their recovery be swift and that they are granted peace in this time of tragedy.

And if you are also blessed with safety + security on this day please consider donating to relief efforts for the victims of this natural disaster. A simple way to donate is to text "HAITI" to "90999." This will add $10 to your phone bill and the donation will go directly to Red Cross to assist in their efforts. Did you know the average Haitian lives on $2 a day? This $10 could make a huge difference to getting them back on their feet.

Will you join me?

Bergdorf Beauties

NYC at Christmas time is magical. Last year when visiting, one of my favorite activities was viewing the windows at Bergdorf Goodman. All of the windows are fabulous decked out for the season but theirs were spectacular. This year BG's windows are equally amazing with the theme being: A Compendium of Curiosities. Described as "A wild cast of character. Tinged with op-art and references to M.C. Escher. Paradoxical points of view. Vintage Victoriana. Laced with the Lewis Carroll "Alice" books. They are surely fantastic!

Pet Love Present: Custom Sketch

If you have a pet owner on your list, then I have the perfect idea for you. Give them a gift certificate for a custom pet doodle--the certificate is super cute too. When the recipient redeems the gift they'll get a drawing of their dear pet. Not only will their furry friend be captured on paper but the doodle can become art for their home when popped in a cute frame. I would just love to see my own doggy doodled on paper. Cute don't cha think?

1,096 Days and Counting

Three years ago today I married my best friend. Boy does time fly when you are having fun! My hubby is the best and with each day I love him more. I'm grateful to be his wife and thankful to celebrate this milestone with him.

"Love is patient; love is kind.
Love is not jealous; it does not put on airs; it is not snobbish.
Love is never rude; it is not self-seeking; it is not prone to anger; neither does it brood over injuries.
Love does not rejoice in what is wrong but rejoices with the truth.
There is no limit to love's forbearance, to its trust, its hope, its power to endure.
Love never fails"
(1 Cor 13:4-8).

Happy Anniversary my love!

Honest Scrap

I'm totally flattered to receive the Honest Scrap Award from Mrs. Limestone. I'd be flattered to receive this from anyone but knowing this creative, inspiring lady nominated me makes me extra happy. As told by Mrs. Limestone the Honest Scrap award "is bestowed upon a fellow blogger whose blog content or design is, in the giver’s opinion, brilliant. This award is about bloggers who post from their heart, who oftentimes put their heart on display as they write from the depths of their soul." See why I'm so honored?!?

The rules that come with said award are: I must brag about the award (posting about it is bragging right?), link back to those who gave it to me (Mrs. Limestone), share 10 honest things about me and give the award to 7 more bloggers.

So here are 10 honest things about me:
  1. I hate talking on the phone. I went through the normal teenage talk-on-the-phone for hours phase but that was short lived. Now I prefer to spend as little time on the phone as possible...weird huh?
  2. My hubby and I have been together for 10 years. We've been married for (almost) 3 of those years. Yep, that means we dated for 7 long years before tying the knot.
  3. I am a total night person. I feel most inspired and creative in the evening.
  4. There are some movies I can (and do) watch over and over again. I even put them on when I need "background" noise. A few are: Sixteen Candles, Dirty Dancing, Weird Science, Can't Buy Me Love, Adventures in Babysitting and the list goes on. I'm a big 80s movies fan and love John Huges' work.
  5. I know it is horribly UN eco-friendly but I love Fiji water. To me it what all water should taste like. I gave up buying bottled water as a New Year's resolution and succeeded until last month. At least I recycle EVERYthing I can, including the water bottles I do buy.
  6. Seinfeld is my favorite television show ever.
  7. My mom and sister are my best friends. I am extremely close to my family...they mean the world to me!
  8. My favorite season is fall and my favorite holiday is Christmas.
  9. I love the beach and feel at peace there listening to the ocean and digging my toes in the sand.
  10. I am honestly blessed to have met so many wonderful friends via this blog.
Wow that was a lot harder than I thought it would be! If you want to know more you can visit my about me page.

Now I get to bestow the award to 7 more honest scraps.
Drumroll please....
  1. Dionne, City of Dionne
  2. Cyndi, Southern Daze
  3. Meg, Fiddlesticks and Funny Girls
  4. Melisa, The Lil Bee
  5. Sherry, Young House Love
  6. Heather, Gathering Spriggs
  7. Danni, Oh, Hello Friend
Thanks again to Mrs. Limestone! Can't wait to see the other responses.

He's Like the Wind

Like many, I am saddened by the passing of Patrick Swayze. It would be impossible for me to count how many times I've seen Dirty Dancing--it is one of my favorite movies. I loved it from the first time I watched it as a pre-teen and the feeling only grew as I grew up and met my (would be) husband. He looks a lot like Patrick Swayze in Dirty Dancing.

Aside from him starring in one of my favorite movies I've always respected him as a person. I love that he had a long lasting relationship with his wife, so rare this days in Hollywood. And even when battling cancer he inspired by saying "One thing I'm not gonna do is chase staying alive. You spend so much time chasing staying alive, you won't live." I got the feeling from his interviews and news that he soaked up every last bit of his life.

I'll miss you Patrick Swayze. You'll always be the best dirty dancer.

John Hughes, Rest in Peace

I found this blog post and cried. Maybe I'm just a weepy kind of person but to me this tribute to her friend, a person that owed her nothing but gave her so much was beautiful to me. I sincerely recommend you read it as it highlights a part of Hollywood that I hope will be sustained through others.

John Hughes played such a huge roll in a generation and will continue to do so I think through the many fans who will keep replaying and rewatching and reloving his masterpieces. I think this weekend I'm going to spend some time with The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles and Ferris Bueller. Rest in Peace, Mr. Hughes and thank you!
