Totally Random Post
They say that scent is the strongest scent tied to memory and I think I agree. I am not sure why but the other day out of the blue a body spray/perfume I used to wear in middle school popped into my mind. It was called Gingham Heartland from Bath and Body Works. My best friend and I both wore it and all the "cool" girls did too. I remember when I ran out my aunt bought me another bottle for my birthday.
Earlier in middle school, I wore Sunflowers. My other best friend turned me on to that one. And my little sister tried it out too so to this day the smell holds memories for me and I actually still have a bottle with a few drops left from a shopping trip not too long ago. In high school my boyfriend wore Polo Sport and to this day that smell takes me back a bit. During that time I wore Ralph Lauren Romance and love it still. On my wedding day I was into SJP's Lovely and the scent can transport me in an instant back to that day--it almost gives me butterflies.
Isn't it so neat how these simple things can teleport you back to a time and place? I'd give anything to find a bottle of Heartland somewhere(apparently I'm not the only one--bottles sell near $100 on ebay!)...I just know it'd bring back the fun days I spent with my buddy. I'm on the hunt for a new scent and it is fun to think that one day the notes will take me back to this time in my life. Do you have a scent that takes you back? I'd love to know!

Lauren by Ralph Lauren for me and my high school sweetheart wore Polo {the green bottle}.... lots of memories there, I always smile when I smell either one.
ReplyDeletemy middle school boyfriend's name was charlie...he gave me the perfume "charlie" it was puppy love!
ReplyDeletescents definately put me in mind of certain times. rosewater reminds me of being very little as i was given some in a little perfume bottle and told it was perfume to make me feel special and grown up. cherry blossom too as it smells of my grandmother's garden and hanging out the washing. honeysuckle was the end of our garden.
ReplyDelete'knowing' by estee lauder is the smell of my mum and my dad is 'aramis'. my best friend smells like 'ghost' and 'angel innocent' was my smell in my 'crazy' years.

ReplyDeletei can totally relate to this! lucky you perfume and ralph by ralph lauren really take me back to the middle school/early high school years. i am getting married this summer and plan to purchase a new perfume for the wedding & honeymoon, with hopes that one day it will take me back to these happy times too!
ReplyDeleteVictoria's Secret "Amber Romance," and "Pear Glace," body sprays. I wore them throughout high school and college before I discovered real perfume. Smelling either one brings back a flood of emotions and memories.

Awesome post, my favorite of the day! Calvin Klein's Eternity (and Extra Winterfresh gum) brings back high school memories, I wore the original Dolce & Gabbana during my early 20s and now I wear Diptyque or Roger & Gallet, yes, I've evolved!
ReplyDeleteAs soon as I saw the picture it brought me back! I think mine was blue and white or purple and white. I miss that bottle!! I will forever remember my Aunt and her Youth Dew perfume by Estee Lauder. It was a choking powdery scent, but when I smell it I am instantly back in Florida visiting!!
ReplyDeleteGreetings from NOLA! I actually wore Sunflower, too, and Gingham, the blue and white version. And have ALWAYS been a scent person. I actually have too many to wear but I need different ones for my different moods/times. My all-time fav scent EVER is Freesia (the purple one) from BBW but had since fallen in love with the Sheer Freesia. I am also in love with Vera Wang Bouquet.
ReplyDeleteHa. I totally wore that. The one with the blue gingham top though.
ReplyDeletelet's see... what scents???
exc!amation (Jr. high)
Sunflowers (high school)
Love's Baby soft (late elementary/jr high)
Estee Lauder Pleasure (high school)
Drakkar Noir (every high school boy wore that)
My high school boyfriend -- who is now my current boyfriend -- wore Polo too, and that scent reminds me of our old times. I also have sweet memories of Armani's Aqua di Gio. Yum.
ReplyDeleteBack in high school, I wore Estee Lauder's Pleasures, and to this day, my boyfriend doesn't like it when I wear anything else! I guess even men attach memory to scents!
