Giveaway: The Great Give

There are so many giveaways this time of year. It is a perfect time to thank readers, customers and friends for their support. I definitely wanted to come up with a way to thank all of you for reading my little blog. But this year I wanted to try something a little different, something that really kept with the theme of a GreatFull day. Many ideas came and went but for one reason or another wouldn't work. Finally the right idea came to me! It encompassed everything I wanted in a Christmas project/giveaway of sorts: great prizes, the Christmas spirit and good deeds. So are you ready for a great contest?!?! Here we go!

Here what you need to do to enter:

  • In order to enter this contest you must do a great, good deed. What kind of good deed? Well that is up to you! Maybe you'll donate funds to a charity that is close to your heart. Maybe you'll bake cookies for a few neighborhood kids. Maybe you'll volunteer at an organization that needs help. What does your heart tell you to do? What could really help your friends, family, or community? Whatever you feel moved to do will qualify! Use your heart and imagination and make a great give!
  • Remember that little deeds and seemingly small actions can set off a chain of positivity that could in essence change lives and the world.
  • Please don't shy away from entering because you think your idea is not big enough or great enough!
  • Use this as an opportunity to involve your spouse, family, and children. Let them help you in doing great things.
  • Once you've done your own great give, write about it on your blog. Your action doesn't have to be huge in scale or cost lots of money. It just has to be heartfelt. When writing about your great deed(s) be sure to say why you choose to do this and how it turned out. Elaborate with photos if you want to.
  • Please don't shy away from entering because you think your idea is not big enough or great enough!
  • If you don't have a blog you can email your entry to: lindseysgreatfull at gmail dot com.
  • After you've blogged about your entry, comment on this post with a link directing us to your great give. Be sure to turn in your link by December 7th at midnight CST.
  • I will read all of the entrants and select three of my favorites to win fabulous prize packages.
  • Winners will be announced by December 11th, 2009 so please check back.
What can you win?!? This, this or this! There will be three lucky winners who will take home over $1600 in prizes between them.

Won't you join me in doing good, no, doing great this holiday season?
I can't wait to hear about your great give and to give away lots of prizes!

  2. Wow! these are some really great prizes and what a great way to encourage others to do a great deed too. I'm sure encouraged by this and all of your days of gratitude as well. This 26 days of gratitude has helped me to have a more positive outlook on life and as well take an inventory of what life or things of life mean to me. Being grateful for things big and small. To my surprise it has actually increased readers on my blog as well. I might have to continue this on somehow. I'll have to think about that though.

  4. This is a fantastic idea. I am so excited about this giveaway, and not even for the prizes (although they look amazing) but for all the glorious goodness they will inspire.
I am blessed by this idea already and I can't wait to see what wonderful, giving things fill this blog.
Thank you for inspiring good in others,

  5. I started something called "The Apple Project," this past September which you can see here:

I've been trying to raise some funds for a young couple such that the husband is able to return to school this next semester (he had to drop out this semester because they did not have enough money to pay his tuition). I will be listing some more items on ebay for them in the next few days :)

  6. Hi Lindsey!

I just discovered your beautiful blog and I am so happy I did. It feels so good to be here and look at all of your beautiful and inspiring posts...

    This challenge is absolutely amazing!
I would have never thought of something like this and that's why I am so happy there are people (like you) in this world, who do.
Only reading about this makes me happy and grateful.

Of course I immediately started to think about something good to do.
At the moment, I am staying in a clinic because of a few problems that came into my life.
I am living there with other people in one house and they're all having their own personal problems. You can imagine the 'vibe' in this house isn't always positive. Lots of people are depressed, don't know what to do with their lives and they are just sad most of the time.
Although I am there to solve my own problems, it's very important to me to do something for the people who have an even harder time than me. I want to make them happy, even if it's just for a few minutes.
So, I started baking pies, brownies, muffins etc. for everyone in the house and we eat the baked things after dinner. All of them really like it, I just see their smiles when they eat the pie and they really enjoy sitting together and eat something sweet.
I know it's just a very little something, but I just wanted to tell you (like you already said yourself) that small things like this really can make a (small) difference.

Also, I just started volunteering at a school, when the children have their lunchtime and eat and play outside at the schoolyard. It's so great to listen to the stories of these kids and to cuddle a kid that feels sad or is bullied.

Well, I think it wasn't actually meant to write this in the comments, but I am not sure yet whether I should post this on my own blog, because the first thing is rather personal and I am just not sure yet.
But I am glad that I could share it here with you.

Thank you so much for this wonderful blog.

  7. I recently read One Nice Thing by Debbbie Tenzer and was deeply inspired. I appreciate that you stressed the small things because starting a foundation or organization can be overwhelming. The simplicity of something small seems less daunting. My family recently moved to New York and for the first time live in a neighborhood with mail boxes on the facade of our homes, rather than in mail boxes. The postmen are almost exclusively on foot and walk from home to home, up the porch stairs, to deliver our mail. With the weather turning cold and snowy, I have come to almost feel guilty watching our postman as I drive by him in our neighborhood. Several weeks ago I left him a short note thanking him for what he does, and he left a note back! It was fun! I have left a Ziplock bag of cookies for him to nibble on. I've caught him on the porch and asked about his Thanksgiving. This is fairly insignificant, I recognize this, but I feel blessed by doing this and very thankful for what our postmen and women do every day, in the cold/rain/snow/heat. I would encourage anyone to do this, it is so simple - but feels so good and warm even still.

  10. What a great idea - I hope it inspires a lot of giving.

My horses (yes my horses) have been donating money to charities since 2007 when they learned how to paint pictures. Sounds strange I know, but their special skills have raised hundreds of dollars for some of my favorite charities including the St. Jude's Children's Hospital.

You can read about their latest charity project here:

  12. We have a yearly tradition of giving to honor the 18 days of our son's short life. We had to find a way to make this sometimes painful anniversary something to celebrate. So, every year we invite our family and friends to join us in doing acts of service every day during those 18 days. They are posted on his blog here: http://www.babysolomon.blogspot.com/

It lifts our spirits and hopefully the world around us too!
