Party Time

My husband and I hosted a surprise party to celebrate his dad's birthday a few weekends ago. It was a shrimp boil (one of his dad's favorite foods) held in our backyard. Although it was held 4th of July weekend, I wanted the celebration to be sans red, white and blue. So a brown, green and white theme to reflect the outdoors took off.

Decor
We had several long tables covered in pale green tablecloths. Place settings consisted of white plates, brown napkins with custom belly bands and silverware. I made several flower arrangements with white flowers picked up at the grocery store and accented with faux bumblebees for a little whimsy. I made Martha's pom poms to hang from the trees. To finish things off I ordered a custom banner, party hats and pin wheels from Crossroads Cottage--she made special papers in my colors and preferences!

Food
While waiting for the honoree to arrive, guests munched on fresh fruits + veggies and my extra special lump crab dip (to keep with the seafood menu). Retro sodas from Boylan were on hand as were custom Jones Sodas, sangria and lots of water! Boiled shrimp were the main course complete with dip, boiled veggies, and a cucumber + tomato salad. Finally a triple chocolate fudge cake with vanilla ice cream was served for dessert. As a treat to take home personalized M&Ms were packaged in take home bags as favors.

The party was a lot of fun and I think it was a sucess. I love to entertain so this was up my alley. Hope you enjoy this peek at the party. Have you had any parties of your own lately?
