Otherwise Engaged
On our way to Florida I got a phone call from my sister's boyfriend. He wanted some advice on how to ask my parents for her hand in marriage. Needless to say I was pretty excited and happy for my sister. I was also really glad to be miles and miles away on vacation so that I wouldn't be able to chat with her much and give her any signs (via voice, body language, etc) that I was keeping a secret.
Throughout our trip, I kept in touch with her boyfriend as we chatted about how he would ask her, how the meeting with my parents went, etc. It happened to work out that he would be asking her on the day we were set to return. So it was decided that we'd stay over night (and extend our vacation) by driving through their town on the way home. This would allow us not only to celebrate with her but I was also able to photograph the proposal.
The two of them had dinner at one of New Orleans' finest restaurants and afterward her boyfriend suggested they make a quick stop on the way home to a very specific trolley stop. Years before when they met my sister was on a trip to NOLA with friends. Because they hit it off so well they wanted to keep chatting when her friends were ready to head to bed. So that night they spent hours on said trolley stop bench talking into the wee hours of the morning. Obviously this bench has been a sweet symbol in their relationship and they've visited it often.
This night's visit was different though. Decorated with rose petals and twinkling candlelight the trolley stop was the spot where her boyfriend got down on one knee to ask her to be his wife. To say my sister was shocked was an understatement! In fact at dinner they had discussed how she'd surely know when he was going to pop the question because he can't keep a secret. Little did she know...
I snapped away and tried to capture the moment as best as I could from across the street (and in the darkness of the summer night). Eventually I wandered up closer to them to photograph more detail and it took several moments before my sis realized I was there--she was definitely in the moment and in her own world! The final surprise was that my parents were in the window of a hotel overlooking the road and had witnessed the whole thing. My sister said she was so happy to have us all there to celebrate.
So now we are beginning to get into wedding mode here. They are looking into options for every thing from the ceremony location to flowers. The hardest part for me is helping them find a photographer! I want to do it myself but I know it is not feasible. I want to be able to enjoy the day with my sister and not get absorbed with my work*. Let the planning begin!
Please join me in congratulating my sister and future brother-in-law!
*I really DO get absorbed with my work. As I was crossing the median where the trolleys run in NOLA, I was in my photography "zone" looking through my lens and seeing only my subjects. My hubby was nearby with my camera bag, etc and it is a good thing. I was so into my "job" that I was about to get hit by the trolley! See? No way I could shoot her wedding and not get lost in the world behind the lens.

Adorable Recordables
There are so many adorable wedding videos out there today done but such creative professionals. When I wed my sweetheart I was convinced I didn't need a videographer and in a last minute rush once coming to my senses I was forced to hire a "so called professional" who did a less than ideal job. I still cherish what we do have but if I had to do it again I think I'd seek out an inspiring storyteller like the brides below did. Take a peek at these really sweet videos.

Pretty in Pink

It is a beautiful, beautiful day here in LA. I'm having a hard time being motivated to do anything but lay in my hammock outside. I thought I'd share this beautiful pink and black wedding with you guys to day (as seen on Snippet & Ink). It just looks so spring-like and feminine. Love!

Breakfast at Tiffany's
Audrey Hepburn has always been an inspiration for me. Her classic style, natural beauty, giving heart and acting talents made her the icon she still is today. Breakfast at Tiffany's being one of my favorite movies goes without saying.

Never have I seen anything inspired by Audrey that is quite as beautiful as these photos by Axioo photographers. The bride-to-be named Tiffany and her fiancee had a Breakfast at Tiffany's inspired engagement shoot. I am totally loving everything about the shoot. From the movie inspired black and white images to the exclusive color of Tiffany's itself to the pop of Louboutin red this session has me swooning!

Stunning Bride

On my short list of photographers who inspire me is Susan Stripling. Today she posted the image below and my jaw dropped. Perfect, dramatic lighting and a beautiful bride make for a stunning photograph. I had to share!

Alisa Benay
The 2010 collection by Alisa Benay is so beautiful. The thoughtful detailing and romantic patterns are swoon worthy. The dress below is my favorite from the line. It reminds me of a modern take on a Southern wedding gown. It'd be a perfect fit for swanky nuptials in front of a sweeping plantation home.

Here's my second favorite...but I bet you could've guessed that!

Jessica Claire's Wedding Reveal

As a photographer I've been eagerly waiting for today...the big reveal of Jessica Claire's wedding photos + details. (Remember her invitations?) On the day of the wedding I was glued to all my favorite photographer's twitter streams catching glimpses of the day through words and the occasional iphone photo. Now the big day (for me!) is here.
My excitement to see these photos is only overshadowed by seeing my own wedding photos for the first time. The bride herself revealed a few photos on her blog and will be doing more posting until all the good stuff has been shared. Jose Villa also contributed his amazing shots to Style Me Pretty and I've been drooling on my keyboard for many reasons: the creativity of the wedding planning team, thoughtful details, beautiful attire and of course stunning photos. Head on over to both sites for some serious eye candy. Believe me...you've gotta see this wedding!
Congrats to Jessica and Jeff! If their wedding is any indication of how beautiful their life will be together then they are set.

Ruffle Love: Wedding Dress

I loved (still love) my wedding dress and wouldn't ever change it. But that doesn't stop me from drooling over other gowns and picturing myself twirling around in them in my head! This is my latest dream dress. Not sure I'd be able to pull off the back of this gown without some serious trips to the gym but I still love it. Amsale never fails to impress!
Do you have a dress you dream of twirling in?

The Most Awesome Wedding Invites Ever!
I totally intended to sign off for the weekend but the ever fabulous Jessica Claire just wowed me beyond words and I had to share immediately. Today she shared her save the dates and invitations for her wedding that is only a month away! Now the STDs are lovely but the invites totally got me!
A hollowed out book held the request for each guest's presence. And the library card inside the cover held the map, response card, and wedding details. A wax seal, antique button, letterpressed type and burnt edges make each one quite the custom piece. Each book was hand chosen for its color, size, etc. I'm pretty sure that each person receiving one of these beauties was as impressed as I am. Now I can't wait to see the wedding details! The count down is on...
