I'm trying to gradually ease back into the blogging world, taking a break to get things situated with the new blog have made me fall off the proverbial wagon! Things have been busy and cold here! So I'm going to play a bit of catch up here with this 13 on Thursday post.

I know our temperatures and conditions are nothing compared to where some of you live but I'm cold and over the winter! We've had sleet, freezing rain, no sunshine and snow over the last week. I don't mind the cold so much as the general dreariness. I'm ready for Spring.
My birthday is 38 days away. Wow, that puts things in perspective! I've updated my 30 before 30 list here so you can see my progress. I better get cracking!

There are so many great Valentine's Day ideas out in the blogosphere. I believe love + romance should be celebrated year round but I admit the abundence of pink, red and white do make my heart flutter a bit. Here are three of my faves: 1, 2, 3
CSNstores generously gave me a credit to spend and used it on a Breville Juicer. I'd like to learn more about healthy juices to whip up, especially with veggies. Do you have any favorite recipes and/or books for me to check out?

As a child I was an avid reader. I remember no matter where I went I always had a book with me. I loved Sweet Valley Twins and Sweet Valley High. I think I still have a box or two filled with my collection of the series in my parents' attic. Did you read Fracine Pascal's books too? An adult version of the beloved books is in the works and will be released on March 29th. I can't wait to read Sweet Valley Confidential and see what the girls are up to these days.
Last week I stumbled unto a beauty must have: Sally Hansen's Complete Salon Manicure. It was on a display at the drug store and I nonchalantly checked out it and fell in love. I purchased "Shall We Dance" and the hue is barely noticeable on my nails but it is just nude enough to give me a manicured look. The brush is really unique and works well and the polish dries really fast. Best part it leaves your nails uber shiny, just like from the salon. Love it! Get some now!
Did you know there is an official "Random Acts of Kindness Week?" I just learned of it and thought I'd share. Next week is RAK Week and if you visit the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation's website you'll find lots of ideas on how to participate. I'm pretty excited about it!

I'm really loving stripes for spring. I'll take one of these and one of these too please. :-)
I've been designing and designing lately and putting my graphic design degree to use. Wedding invitations, shower invitations, illustrations, etc. It has been quite fun!
This week I spent some time going through old photos for a decor project I'm working on. This just reiterated my love for photography. So many moments are captured in time for generations to come--what a great art form!
Getting thank you notes in the mail is the best! I need to get better about sending them and sending them for every little thing. You cannot say "thank you" enough.

I'm love, love, loving all of the nude colors at the award shows these days. Some of my faves are above. I don't think I could pull off so little color though, since I'm pale. Eek!
This year's Superbowl was not nearly as fun for me as last years. ;-) But I did enjoy the Darth Vador commercial. Hilarious! What was your favorite commercial?

13 on Thursday: I'm Back!

Happy 2011 everyone!
I cannot believe it has been almost a month since I've blogged. This is the longest I've gone without blogging since 2008! I thought this would be a perfect time to do a "13 on Thursday" to play a bit of catch-up.

Our Christmas was amazing. We spent lots of time with family, ate amazing foods and generally felt blessed by all around us. Didn't hurt that we were spoiled rotten either! How was your holiday?
Since we last "chatted" I've kept very busy by taking photos of some amazing people. We shot a wedding on New Year's Eve that was amazing and another great one last week too. This weekend will be yet another nuptial photoshoot. It has been a blast and I feel so blessed to have such wonderful clients.
Another reason for my absence here is that my blog will undergoing a major makeover and revamp in content over the next weeks. I'm just so excited about it, I want to save all of my posts until then. I sure hope you'll love it as much as I do.
It has been really cold here (in Louisiana's terms at least--in the 20s!) and I've been enjoying it a bit. Having an excuse to drink Starbucks frequently, snuggle up under two comforters and spend time editing indoors without feeling guilty is great!
Having said that, I am a bit excited for Spring too. So many amazing events will take place over the coming months--I'm ready to soak it all in.
I got a new mac a few weeks ago and I'm loving it. My office is undergoing some decor additions and its sleek shape fits right in. I can't wait to complete the space so I can share it with you. Right now I'm looking at modern rugs to finish off the look.
Lately I've been on a Pandora kick while editing in the office. What is your favorite station?
On a similar note, I need to update my itunes with some new sounds. Any favorite tunes to share?
I have found the perfect chocolate chip recipe! World's best! I'll share it soon--promise.
Part of my Matron of Honor duties for my sister is to design/choose a design for her invitations. I'm currently exploring letterpress designs, they are all so pretty. Do you have a favorite letterpress designer?
I'm kind of sad that as adults we don't exchange Valentine cards the way we did in elementary school. I totally want to design + send out cute cards. Something about the red, pink and white hues make me feel all warm and fuzzy.
I came across this on the web today: Kids Trying to Figure Out 80s technology. It is pretty funny since that really doesn't seem that long ago. Also interesting: Things Kids Born in 2011 Will Never Know. Feeling old yet? I kind of am!
I'm not going to finish every thing on my 30 Before 30 List. I've made great headway and am optimistic I'll finish more but I'm trying to be realistic. I did however do many things NOT on the list so that counts for something right? To be honest I'm trying to distract myself from the fact I'll be the big 3-0 soon. Eek!

So that is a bit of what's going on with me. Until the blog redesign is complete I may be a bit scarce but I'll pop in. Hope you guys will stick around and be patient with me!

Merry Christmas!

This will come as no surprise but I've been a bit consumed by the hustle and bustle of the season. I've really been enjoying wrapping gifts, baking cookies, entertaining friends and spending time with family. Oh yea, and I've been enjoying holiday beverages from 'Bucks as often as possible. ;-) My clients have also kept me busy with orders and editing...I feel so very grateful for this! It is for these reasons the blog has been so quite lately.

I've made the decision to sign off for the year! I want to dedicate my time to the true reason of the season and enjoy the cheer and joy it brings. I'm sure you will all be busy with festivities of your own and won't even miss me much!

I wish all of you a very merry Christmas. May you and yours be blessed throughout the season and into the new year too! Next year is going to be a great one. I just know it! I'll be back soon.

13 on Thursday--Monday Edition

What can I say? The holidays have kept me really busy. I feel like I am back on track a bit now. I thought I'd dive right in with a 13 on Thursday...yes, yes I know it's Monday. Let's just overlook that shall we?

My fingers are so cold right now. I really wish there were some sort of very thin, easy to type in gloves or something. Brrrrr!
This weekend I wrapped up all of our Christmas gifts (to give). I only have 2 more gifts to buy. It feels great to be so close to being done shopping. It sure has made for a less stressful holiday. How's your holiday shopping going?
Today on the BSP we are giving away a gift card to CSNstores. At times like this I wish I could win! I spent a large amount of time browsing their bedroom furniture while "researching" for the giveaway. After the new year I'm redecorating our master bedroom.
I really wish Etsy offered Gift Cards, that's what I'd want for Christmas. I have a wish list of Etsy items a mile long.

My mom bought hubby and I an Elf on The Shelf a few years ago. Even though we don't have kids we have totally been having a blast with our elf, Rudy, this year. We've shared so many laughs because of this little elf!
These macro photos of snowflakes are so pretty! Even the simplest things can be beautiful when viewed with a thankful heart.
This weekend I picked up a Polaroid 600 Land Camera at an estate sale. I can't wait to get film for it. Anyone have experience with The Impossible Project? Should I buy from them or purchase discontinued film?

Ninjabread men: awesome! My hubby would love it if I made him these.

Probably no surprise but our Christmas tree is decorated in a gingerbread + peppermint theme. So I wrap our presents in kraft paper and peppermint embellishments. These packages are so pretty though, I want to change my entire theme!

If I had the room (and the funds) I'd purchase this nativity set in a heartbeat. It is adorable!

One word: yum!
I flunked out of SFS this time around. But wowee, my classmates have taken some amazing photos.
This week I plan on drinking lots of warm beverages, finishing up the last of the Christmas photo orders, baking chocolate chip cookies and spending time with friends + family. What are your plans?

NOLA Anthropologie

Sorry for the lack of posts this week. We took a mini vacay to NOLA this weekend and had a great time relaxing. I definitely loved being away from my computer for a few days.

In August Anthropologie opened in NOLA and this was my first chance to check it out. They took over the spot Pottery Barn once held and totally recreated the space. I could have easily spent hours in the store while taking photo after photo. Instead I had a limited amount of time and felt the need to covertly capture images. I thought I'd share a few with you...

They had really cute, creative holiday displays...

Even the staircase was unique....

I loved the display case filled with peach colored boxes. There were so many items I picked up hoping to purchase that were marked: "prop."

This funky P&S photo doesn't capture the beauty of this chandelier. It was wrapped in thick rope. I bet this would be an easy DIY project!

This display of lovely colored mittens was just darling. Replicating this in a child's room would be sweet...

I really, really, really wanted to take this desk home. The sawhorse/artist table was to die for! I wonder if I could get my hubby to construct something similar that I could splatter with my own paints over time?

Even the "shopping carts" at Anthro are chic. I loved these market totes but deliberately did not pick one up. I would have filled it in no time! Instead I limited myself to what my already busy hands could handle. :-)

Great Full (almost) Friday

I hope that you are currently drifting into dreamland with a belly full of yummy treats and a heart full of love. We spent the day with the hubby's family and enjoyed some great time with his grandmother. Afterward we headed to my parents to say hello and spent the rest of the evening relaxing while watching movies.

Thanksgiving is such a wonderful day...every one is reminded to be grateful and to appreciate blessings big and small. I know I become more aware of the beauty around me on this day. It is my hope to carry this feeling with me the entire year through.

I am grateful today for many things but I'd like to list a few that stand out in my mind today as making my life especially great and full:

a Lord who has given grace, new life and forgiveness
my husband
my family: parents, sister, cousins, uncles, in-laws...all mean the world to me
visible evidence of God's love. today it was glorious sunlight beaming from behind the clouds.
a full belly and warm bed. little things often overlooked in daily gratitudes
clients who allow me to do what i love
fabulous online buddies who have helped me grow and offered their friendship
my sweet pup

Today I hope you'll join me and take a moment to count your blessings.

13 on Thursday--Tuesday Edition

Since we'll all no doubt be lounging about with full bellies on this Thanksgiving Thursday, I decided to keep my 13 on Thursday going by posting early. Sound good?

Great, here we go!

Did you see the news over on The Bright Side Project? It is something we've been working on for a while and I'm very excited. Not to mention, I feel very blessed for continued opportunities.
I've been editing, editing and well editing images for days. I love, love, love my job but I will admit it will be nice to step away from my computer for a few days this week.
Apparently, my Starbucks restraint is gone. Since my first pumpkin spice latte, I've been a bit hooked on yummy holiday drinks. I've tried the Caramel Brûlée and Peppermint Mocha. Caramel Brûlée is currently tied for first place with PS. Next on the "to try" list: Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate. Yum!
Every year, Thanksgiving night brings one of many great traditions...the first "A Christmas Story" viewing of the season. I cannot wait!
Another tradition (that sometimes gets delayed) is buying our Christmas tree on T-day. This year I think it will actually happen so that we can maximize our pine enjoyment. I cannot wait!
I'm mulling over a business decision with the hubby. Nothing I can reveal until a decision is made but prayers are welcome.
I photographed the most gorgeous bride (bridal portraits) and I can't wait to share her photos after the wedding--it is so hard not to show everyone!
The high temp on Thanksgiving day will be 82 degrees here--not very festive feeling. Wanna know the high for the very next day? 52 degrees!?!?

Have you seen this year's Neiman Marcus Christmas Book (catalog)? The illustrations inside the first few pages + cover are beautiful and I love looking at their over the top gifts. Can you imagine an edible gingerbread playhouse from Dylan's Candy Bar under your tree?
My google reader has 224 unread posts as of now. I think I may need to do a little clean up so I can manage better. What are your absolutely "must reads?"
I'm super sad that the Waterfalls cardigan I love at Anthro became "unavailable" before I could order it. :-( I almost shed a tear.

Been a busy week here as you can see from the lack of posts. I love this time of year...staying busy with fun projects. Here I go with another 13 on Thursday...

My little pup had to have a procedure done on Monday and he had to be put under. I was a nervous mommy but everything went well, he's doing great and he's extra cuddly.
I received my copy of Anthology magazine last weekend and I'm saving it for after my shoots this weekend. I want to cuddle up under a bunch of blankets, flip through the pages and sip on a warm beverage.
Speaking of warm beverages...I finally had a Pumpkin Spice Latte. Just as good as I remember and now I am afraid I'm hooked. What's your favorite holiday beverage from the 'Bucks.
This weekend I have one bridal shoot, four family shoots and a small wedding to photograph. It will be busy but fun too--I love my clients!
This Thanksgiving I am responsible for a sweet potato dish. I am thinking of keeping it simple and making this one. Do you have any sweet potato recommendations?

Another great surprise in my mailbox this week: my copy of "An Awesome Book of Thanks" by Dallas Clayton. I love, love, love this books!
Wish so many letters weren't out of stock. I'd like to spell out "eat" in my kitchen.
So sad I didn't purchase these cookie cutters before they sold out. I may have to hunt some down on ebay.
One of my SFS classmates put together a great series: 31 Days to Better Photos. I highly recommend it if you are looking to improve your photography skills.
I'm soooo behind on laundry this week. Too much photo editing, too little washing. I'll be playing catch up all day today.
I went to NY&Co to buy the skirt I talked about last week...I wasn't crazy about the color in person. I did however (thanks to some coupons my mom had) purchase three sweaters, a shirt, a skinny belt and a necklace for $75! Pretty amazing, made going to the mall worth it.
I have to admit that I can't wait for "Black Friday" to be behind us just so I can stop hearing about it. Seems retailers are really pushing it this year and it is kind of annoying.
We watched Meet the Fockers over the weekend...I'm really excited to see Little Fockers. Looks hilarious!

Time again for another 13 on Thursday.
Sure hoping you guys are having a great week!

I've crossed two things off my 30 before 30 list in the last week. The first being: plant a lemon tree in our yard. My parents gifted us with the tree as an anniversary gift (this year was fruit + flowers).

Going to a concert was the second thing I crossed off. Last night along with Mikey and my parents I attended one of the best concerts I've ever been to. The performer was none other than Sir Elton John. He played many of his greatest hits and ended with "Your Song" which is one of my faves. He played for over three hours straight without an intermission. He stepped off the stage for one song and Leon Russell kept things going. It was such a great, great show and I'm glad to have seen him live.
This weekend I have a bridal shoot and three family sessions. I'm crossing my fingers the weather cooperates. We've had perfect weather the last week or so and I hope it holds out!
Can you believe there are 44 days until Christmas?!? This year has flown by! I'm pretty proud of myself for having four gifts purchased already. I'm not a true "last minute" shopper as I am never shopping two days before Christmas or anything but this is a good head start for me.

We planted pansies, kale and snapdragons in our front yard last weekend. Inside the fall decor came out of the closet. I have a lot of acorn decor for this time of year. I love fall!
On Tuesday I tried my hand at haricots verts. The fresh green beans were so crisp and flavorful. And the French language made me feel très chic on a humble week night.
An update for all of you: I STILL haven't sipped a Pumpkin Spice Latte. I had a Pumpkin Spice Frapuccino but not a latte. Maybe this weekend will be the weekend.

This time of year always makes me crave NYC. A couple years ago my family and I spent Thanksgiving in Pennsylvania and NY. It is my favorite vacation to date and the cooler southern temps make me really miss the beauty of the northeast this time of year.
I'm thinking I'm going to go with 6 weeks of cookies for SFS. I'm going to bake my first batch tomorrow since my in-laws will be in town and they can help us eat therm.

I know I've been talking about buying a pair of TOMS for ages but I've always put it off. But the new gilded herringbone style may be just the pair I've been waiting for.
Did you know Jamba Juice makes smoothie kits so you can blend drinks up a home? I bought one at Target earlier in the week. I'll let you know how it goes.
All the holiday dinnerware I've seen before has been too traditional or just plain tacky. I'd like to pair the pretty ones from Crate & Barrel with my white china.

I'm really excited that Miss B. is hosting another Souvenir Foto School. This session's theme is "Food + Foto" and each week students will turn in a photo of anything food related but it should be part of a personal theme. I keep wavering in my decision. Assignments are due each Sunday so I need to decide soon. And since I'll be posting each week's photo here on the blog, I thought maybe you guys could help me decide. Vote below if you don't mind!

13 on Thursday

It's time again for another 13 random tidbits. Hope you guys are having a great week! I STILL can't believe it is Thursday already. My sister and her fiance stayed in town to visit on Monday and it has throw me off--today feels like Wednesday to me. But it is great that is not because that means one day closer to the weekend!

We are expecting chilly (for Louisiana) temperatures for at least the next week. During the day we'll see mid 60s and low 40s at night. So today I'm doing what the majority of Southern Louisiana women are doing: making a gumbo!
My hubby ran a 5K on Saturday and got first place! I am so, so proud of him! This is deserving of exclamation points right!?!?!
I always like as much daylight as I can get but I'm pretty excited to "gain" an extra hour this Saturday. I'm looking on the bright side and taking this ritual as a sign of the holiday fun around the corner.
Anyone else feel that Mondo was robbed? I was never a Gretchen fan and her final collection on Project Runway did not impress me. Can't wait to see what Mondo comes up with in the future.
Can't believe I'm admitting this but hubby and I went see Jackass 3D last week--everyone needs a good laugh sometimes right!? Well take a bit of advice from me: Skip it--it was sooooo gross!

When my sister + fiance were in town, my mom and I helped them with their wedding registry. It was as much fun as when hubby and I did it 4 years ago! My favorite part was helping them pick out china. There are so many pretty patterns, I love to mix and match them. I'll share her pattern soon.
Every few months, I feel the need to update my itunes with some new music. Today's purchase included: Kings of Leon, Bruno Mars and Jack Johnson. Have any tune suggestions for me?
I really, really, really want this skirt. It is so chic with the gray tights!

In other fashion news, I have to confess I'm super jealous of you guys that live near an H&M. Their collaboration with Lanvin is amazing and affordable!

Elf Cards

Real Deal: Real Simple

So last week several of you mentioned Real Simple was one of your favorite magazines. It is my fave too! I was SO excited when I visited Amazon and found that subscriptions were on sale for $10 a year! My subscription just ended so I scooped one up before the deal expired tomorrow. As I mentioned...I'm so ready for the holidays this year. Can't wait to decorate, enjoy cold weather with a cup of hot cocoa and of course decorate gingerbread houses. My hubby and I have done our fair share of gingerbread houses--all via the simple kits found at any store. I'm thinking this year it would be really, really fun to take things up a notch with the Gingerhaus kits from Sur La Table. I'd love to make an entire village.

I'm totally piggybacking off of my friend Cyndi. I love her 13 on Thursdays and have looked forward to them since she started the series. So because imitation is the sincerest form of flattery I've decided to jump aboard. So here we go...

Have you been watching Project Runway this season? Who are you pulling for? I'm a member of "Team Mondo" and I'm hoping he wins tonight. His use of patterns just makes me happy.
I am totally hooked on apples this fall (and every fall really). Honeycrisp and Pink Ladies are my favorites. I bought the juiciest, yummiest Honeycrisps at Fresh Market yesterday but was shocked at the price--4 apples cost me over $9, yowza! At least they are healthy and oh so good.
I haven't had one single Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte yet. This has got to be some sort of record for me. To make it even more shocking we had several weeks of awesome fall weather and I still didn't indulge. It has been warm (okay hot) however for a couple weeks so I'm promising myself on the first cool day I'm heading over to 'bucks to grab my favorite drink.
We went shopping for my sister's wedding dress and she found the most amazing dress. And did I mention she is gorgeous!? I'm so excited for her and can't wait to share more wedding details with you guys later on. (P.S. I've always want to commission Brooklit to do a wedding dress drawing for me.)
Also on the wedding front, we've narrowed down bridesmaids dresses and I'm actually loving the options. She has a few favorites from The Dessy Group (one of my new sponsors) to decide between and I'd honestly be happy with any of them. No crazy styles a la "27 Dresses."
In even more wedding news my buddy Krista from The BSP got engaged yesterday and I'm so incredibly happy for her. Drop by and leave her some love here. She is such an incredible writer, I tear up on her blog regularly--just warning you!
I tried carving a pumpkin for the first time in a looooong time on Sunday. It was an epic failure. Having taken sculpture classes in college I thought I'd be above beginner level--wrong. The Martha Stewart template I downloaded was a total bust. On the bright side, I used this recipe (which I edited a lot) to make some yummy roasted pumpkins seeds albeit a bit pricey pumpkin seeds.
I was thinking of offering Christmas cards featuring these photos. Yay or nay?
I love the fall but for some reason this year I am eager for Christmastime to arrive. It is my favorite time of year and for some reason I'm even more excited for it to arrive.
Looking forward to sharing really fun Halloween treat for my sweetie. I'll share pics tomorrow.
I think I picked out a color to paint our hallway (which would be another item off the list). Do you think gray is too dark for a hallway? I plan to line the wall with old, black and white family photos.
Are you dressing up for Halloween? I got a funky little hat that is kind of witchlike (similar to this)l. I also bought some funny gloves and orange + black striped tights that I think I'll pair with a solid black skirt + top just to be festive.
What's your favorite Halloween candy? This year I only bought candy I didn't like for trick-or-treaters and I have not eaten one.single.piece. Quite the caloric victory! :-)

Little Gold Rush

When I was a child, we went to Colorado often during summer vacation. We always stayed in a really small town where other travelers were few and far between. In between horse-back riding, treks up the mountains, and fishing trips we would head "into town" to check out the local shops. Our first stop was always the old-fashioned ice-cream shop that served up the best cones we'd ever tasted. Afterward my sister and I would always convince our parents to head over to one of many "rock shops."

These shops were filled from floor to ceiling with every imaginable stone, mineral, geode and boulder--most of which were local. My sister and I would carefully choose sparkling crystals, vibrant stones and magical geodes as souvenirs to take home. Among my most prized acquisitions were rocks speckled with flakes of real gold and little jars of gold dust that glistened in the sunlight. These precious metal minis made us feel as though we were leaving with true riches!

Imagine my delight when I stumbled upon Dollybird's Lil Gold Rush ring yesterday. Small remnants of golden quartz remind me of the treasures of my youth while providing a textural light show. I love the organic beauty and think this is the perfect grown-up version of my young obsession.

Amazon is having another great magazine sale so I thought I'd pass along the news. $6.99 for some of their best selling titles including one of my must-haves: Country Living. Other great titles include Marie Claire, House Beautiful, Cosmo, Veranda, Esquire, Seventeen, Bazaar and more. Updating your subscriptions for a little more than the cost of one issue at the store is a great way to save and still enjoy your faves.

I love the internet magazines that are popping up these days but there is something about the real thing that is just the best. Picking up a tangible copy and settling in with a good read is one of my favorite things to do. What are your favorite magazines? I'm always looking for new titles to love!

Flat Out

A few years ago flats were not my thing. Now they are. There is something so simple and classic about a sweet pair of ballet flats. Very Audrey. Sadly I ruined my favorite NEW pair at a recent shoot so I'm on the hunt for a new pair or two. I stumbled across these plaid pretties while searching. They are a little bit classic, a little bit 80s and a lot fun.

When seeking a unique gift for our engaged friends over the summer I turned to Etsy (of course). The couple loves art so I decided to purchase a custom watercolor portrait from Yasmine Molavi's shop: Mine. After sending over a photo, she did a custom watercolor complete with wedding date. We gave them the gift last weekend and the newlyweds were thrilled with this wonderful work of art.

Wouldn't it be so fun to add the Top 10 Foodie Holidays to your must-see (or maybe must-taste) list and cross them all off? It would be really neat to be able to claim you've tried them all. I've dined on two of them already: New Orleans gumbo and a NYC hot dog. Both are 100% worthy of being on the list.

I have to say pasta in Naples, Italy sounds like the best of the other 8 options to me. What would you most like to taste? Have you already sampled any of these "must-eats?"

I am in love with this dress from Alice + Olivia. It'd be a great New Year's Eve frock. A fun going-away dress for a bride. Perfect for an anniversary celebration. Cute for a night on the town. In fact I dare say that I'd create an occasion to wear it!

The bad news: I found it too late...it is a few years old and scarce. :-(

Spooky Shades

When it comes to fall & Halloween decor I'm quite set. In fact I have to restrain myself this time of year because I could easily add and add to my collection until my home was bursting at the seems. What can I say? It is my favorite time of year (fall that is)!

As much as I love these spooky shades, I'm thankful that I don't have a chandelier that could use them. I'm not sure I could resist their glowing charm.

More Beautiful You

As a photographer it is important to stay inspired and to always continue learning. To do so I am always reading fellow photographer's blogs, I am a member of professional forums and I look to magazines for ideas too. Most of the time doing these things keeps me inspired and seeking to improve. But every now and then the doubt seeps in via these sources.

The past couple of weeks I've really been struggling, finding myself comparing myself to others. The gorgeous images I see have not been sparks of insight. Instead they are photographic evidence of my imperfections. Perfect lighting, creative compositions and vibrant colors have my mind reeling with that horrible question: "Am I good enough?"

All of the questions and fears that create doubt have popped up. "Maybe I'm not cut out for this" has been on frequent repeat inside my head. But tonight, as always my Father spoke to me and helped calm the seas of skepticism. He spoke to me via my car radio and I am feeling uplifted.

A few necessary baking supplies led me to make a quick trip to the market. My radio was turned down low but I saw it was on K-LOVE so I prayed a quick "speak to me" before turning up the volume. The next words I heard brought instant tears to my eyes.

"There could never be a more beautiful you
Don't buy the lies disguises and hoops they make you jump through
You were made to fill a purpose that only you could do
So there could never be a more beautiful you"

Today I wanted to share the song "More Beautiful You" by Jonny Diaz in case you were feeling a bit discouraged, or doubtful. And if you have little girls in your life or a daughter of your own be sure to share these lyrics with her. While writing this post I found they Jonny and his mom just released a book based on the song. Even more encouragement for all you beautiful ladies!

Great Full Friday

I've fallen off the "Great Full Friday" wagon and I'm disappointed in myself for it but I'm climbing back on! So many things to be thankful for.

This weekend we don't have any big plans which is nice. Last weekend was quite busy and next weekend will be full of friends and photography. So these few days will be a welcomed break. I think the hubs and I are going to watch a few movies and I want to work on organizing my office closet. What are your weekend plans? Any movie recommendations?

DIY Sunburst Mirror

I've always, always wanted a sunburst mirror. Always!

Over the last couple months I've been redoing our living room. Kept the couch and chairs, incorporated some new pieces, did some painting and finished things of with a bit of accessorizing. But I'm done yet...I've been dreaming of a sunburst mirror.

And NOW I've found a way to DIY (or DIM I guess, do it myself) a sunburst mirror.
Humble materials and a little paint can go a long way. A long way that does not look handmade (that's key!) I can't wait to try this out.

Never Forget

The numbers 9 and 11 will always hold a certain sadness for me. For the last nine years on this day, I've mourned the loss of so many innocent people by the hands of terrorists. But amid all of the sadness there is hope and love. There are miracles found in even the dark moments of this tragedy. The poem by Stacey Randall has always made me tear up and it reminds me to look for the beauty in all of the darkness. I thought I'd share it here in case you have not read it:

You say you will never forget where you were when
you heard the news
On September 11, 2001.
Neither will I.

I was on the 110th floor in a smoke filled room

with a man who called his wife to say 'Good-Bye.'

I held his fingers steady as he dialed.

I gave him the peace to say, Honey,

I am not going to make it,

but it is OK...I am ready to go.

'I was with his wife when he called
as she fed breakfast to their children.
I held her up as she tried to understand his words
andas she realized he wasn't coming home that night.

I was in the stairwell of the 23rd floor when a
woman cried out to Me for help.
'I have been knocking on the door

for the first time on the 86th floor.

But, I was there.

I did not place you in the Tower that day.
You may not know why, but I do. However, if you were;
there in that explosive moment in time,
would you have reached for Me?

Sept. 11, 2001, was not the end of the journey for you.

Otherwise Engaged

On our way to Florida I got a phone call from my sister's boyfriend. He wanted some advice on how to ask my parents for her hand in marriage. Needless to say I was pretty excited and happy for my sister. I was also really glad to be miles and miles away on vacation so that I wouldn't be able to chat with her much and give her any signs (via voice, body language, etc) that I was keeping a secret.

Throughout our trip, I kept in touch with her boyfriend as we chatted about how he would ask her, how the meeting with my parents went, etc. It happened to work out that he would be asking her on the day we were set to return. So it was decided that we'd stay over night (and extend our vacation) by driving through their town on the way home. This would allow us not only to celebrate with her but I was also able to photograph the proposal.

The two of them had dinner at one of New Orleans' finest restaurants and afterward her boyfriend suggested they make a quick stop on the way home to a very specific trolley stop. Years before when they met my sister was on a trip to NOLA with friends. Because they hit it off so well they wanted to keep chatting when her friends were ready to head to bed. So that night they spent hours on said trolley stop bench talking into the wee hours of the morning. Obviously this bench has been a sweet symbol in their relationship and they've visited it often.

This night's visit was different though. Decorated with rose petals and twinkling candlelight the trolley stop was the spot where her boyfriend got down on one knee to ask her to be his wife. To say my sister was shocked was an understatement! In fact at dinner they had discussed how she'd surely know when he was going to pop the question because he can't keep a secret. Little did she know...

I snapped away and tried to capture the moment as best as I could from across the street (and in the darkness of the summer night). Eventually I wandered up closer to them to photograph more detail and it took several moments before my sis realized I was there--she was definitely in the moment and in her own world! The final surprise was that my parents were in the window of a hotel overlooking the road and had witnessed the whole thing. My sister said she was so happy to have us all there to celebrate.

So now we are beginning to get into wedding mode here. They are looking into options for every thing from the ceremony location to flowers. The hardest part for me is helping them find a photographer! I want to do it myself but I know it is not feasible. I want to be able to enjoy the day with my sister and not get absorbed with my work*. Let the planning begin!

*I really DO get absorbed with my work. As I was crossing the median where the trolleys run in NOLA, I was in my photography "zone" looking through my lens and seeing only my subjects. My hubby was nearby with my camera bag, etc and it is a good thing. I was so into my "job" that I was about to get hit by the trolley! See? No way I could shoot her wedding and not get lost in the world behind the lens.

Update: 30 Before 30

On recent vacation I got the opportunity to scratch another item off my 30 before 30 list. In our beach front condo the owners had a box of beach goods and toys for guests to use. Amongst all of the vacation necessities was a G.I. Joe kite and we toted down to the sandy shore. The wind was perfect and I easily got the kite up in the air. It was totally exhilarating to run along the shoreline and see the tail of the kite to begin to flutter as it climbed higher and higher. Though the G.I. Joe kite may not have been ideal (or mature!) it was perfect for accomplishing that goal.

I thought now would be a good item to post my progress on my 30 by 30 list. With 195 days to go, I am pretty happy to have some major things crossed off but there is still a ways to go.

30 Things Before 30

Read the Bible.
Plan a great trip with my hubby to celebrate my 30^th + our 5^th anniversary.
~~Open my own photography business.~~
~~Set up my Etsy shop for my photographic prints.~~
Finish designing our wedding album and get it bound.
Get professional photos taken of me and Mike by a photographer I admire.
Continue learning to crochet and complete an actual project.
Plant a lemon tree in our yard.
Find an exercise that I love an implement it into weekly schedule.
~~Fly a kite.~~
Go to some sort of “pick-you-own” farm.
Finish my office (make it a workable space).
Organize my magazine clippings and idea books.
~~Acquire a nice set of watercolors.~~
Begin using said watercolors.
Go on down to the Audobon Zoo (where they all ask for you!)
~~Find a suitable album for our photo booth photos~~ and organize them.
Go to at least one concert.
Find a way to organize and make easily accessible the hundreds of recipes I have bookmarked (mostly via tastespotting) so that I can actually use them!
Watch the sunrise on the beach.
Begin my “art wall.
Help my mom finish her cookbook.
Get “The Bright Side Project” featured in a magazine. (it has been in a newspaper!)
Redesign my blog.
Paint our hallway.
Give flowers to neighbors on May Day. missed May Day this year so it will have to be late or on a different day
Buy all the spices that belong on a spice rack.
Complete very special BSP project.
Make some sort of jam or jelly.

Rosemary Beach: Tracery Interiors

Our trek down 30A led us to Rosemary Beach. This seaside town was my favorite of all the towns along the gulf we visited. Cobblestone streets and beautiful light, airy architecture make you feel as though you've been transported to an entirely different country. Rosemary Beach is the perfect combination of the Traditional Neighborhood Development and the quintessential beach town. We went up and down the quiet streets and found a few favorite shops, one being Tracery Interiors.

Tracery has created interiors across the South. A peek at their website and blog will give you a glimpse at some of the beauty they've created. Based in Rosemary Beach, Tracery Interiors has a storefront that offers home furnishings, art and decor. Thomas Paul pillows, the simrin glasses I've been wanting and plenty of other gorgeous goods filled the stop. I ended up taking home a cute frame and some seashells to use as filler around my home.

Luckily the sweet girl behind the counter let me know that Tracery Interiors has an online shop. So even if you can't make it to Rosemary Beach you can still browse virtually.

Seaside Stop

Sadly our Florida beach vacation was clouded by a bit of rain. We managed to get a few hours a day by the sea but thunderstorms sent us seeking other ways to entertain ourselves. One day we headed down the scenic 30-A to take a peek at Rosemary, Seaside and Alys Beaches. It was really neat to see how each community on the 30-A coast boasted its own unique charms.

Airstream trailers lined the streets in Seaside and served up tasty treats. My hubby checked out the goods at Barefoot BBQ. Of course I had to check out the cupcakes at Queen Bee Cupcakes. Sweetcakes from an adorable trailer? Who can beat that?! I sampled the Red Velvet and the Vanilla Chocolate with some icy cold milk. In between the two Airstreams we visited were a few others serving up goods: Fruit Cocktail offered juices, purees and adult beverages and Frost Bite served shaved ice in unique flavors. I couldn't help but drool a bit over the Tolix chairs too!

Beach Time

Grown-Up Playhouse

When I was a little girl we'd visit my cousins who lived about an hour away every so often. They had a sweeping back yard with a hill and tire swing. Their closest neighbor raised peacocks who would peek their beaks through the fence dividing the properties. We'd always find long peacock feathers along the fence line and I certainly thought they were magical as we used them as fairy wands and other games.

But above all of these wonders my favorite part of our trips was the chance to visit their playhouse. Hidden beneath a tree, behind the main house was a tiny Victorian with a sweet porch. I honestly couldn't tell you what the inside of the playhouse looked like. I just remember the magic it contained for me. A secret spot for us to play and hide. Our own space. I bet if I saw it now, it would be merely a small, rickety shed like shelter but back then it was a tiny castle!

Imagine my delight when I stumbled upon an article in the NY Times detailing a woman's dream home in the Catskills. A grown-up playhouse was my immediate connection. Sandra Foster carved out her own private retreat behind a run-down trailer and it looks just lovely. Adding to the whimsy is a tiny creek you must cross to find the cottage hidden within the forest. Perhaps most amazing for us adults is that the beauty of this mini-mansion is that it was completely, lovingly and wonderfully restored and decorated for under $3000! This gives me hope that I too may one day have my own "playhouse."

Named "Take A Chance" a few walls of the shop were lined with lovely colorful mini envelopes each containing a suggested chance. "Eat cake for breakfast," "sing outside of the shower," and "embrace color" were a few of the recommendations.

I'd like to make my very own version using Envelopments Roll-A-Deck by filling it with whims and fancies. What fun it would be to pull out a colorful card in moments of boredom or when inspiration is lacking and be immediately energized! And on days when you are feeling 100% the Roll-A-Deck would be a great punch of color for your office decor.

As you can imagine I am extra grateful this week. Having my hubby back home is so great! Everything beyond that was lagniappe as we say in Louisiana (Cajun French for "a little something exta") but that doesn't mean I am not appreciating each and every blessing.

This week I am grateful:

my husband returned home safe and sound after a long month apart.
the other side of the bed is no longer cold and empty.
my doggy received a clean bill of health at the vet.
that my sister's first day of teaching went well.

What made your week great and full?

This weekend I am looking forward to spending time with the hubs. We don't have any plans so we'll just take things as they come. It is supposed to rain quite a bit some I'm thinking of movies, cuddling and yummy dinners. Do you have any fun weekend plans?

Creole Creamery

Combine the fact that I've been to NOLA more times than I can count with my love of ice cream, throw in a few beaming reviews and I still can't figure out why it has taken me all this time to finally head over to the Creole Creamery. On this last trip I refused to head home without making a pit stop and I got my wish.

Creole Creamery has been around for years and is a favorite for locals and foodies alike. Known for their unusual and rare flavors, each batch is made with fresh ingredients and when they are gone, they are gone. The list of flavors they've concocted over the years is quite lengthy and drool-inducing. I decided to try two scoops that were the epitome of South Louisiana--Red Velvet and Black & Gold Crunch. Of the two the red velvet was my favorite with luscious cream cheese ice cream and chunks of the New Orlean's staple--the cake. MMmmmmm!

If you are ever in the area, I highly recommend dropping by. It was a delight--especially on a record breakingly hot day in LA. Next time I want to try: Banana Malt (an ice cream flavor) and Molasses and Oatmeal Cookie. The sherbets and sorbets sound delish too. The thought of doing the Tchoupitoulas Sundae Challenge crossed my mind since the options all seemed so appetizing! Take a peek at their flavors...which would you try?

Colombia

Yesterday was an amazing day for me. My husband came home after 30 long days in Bogota, Colombia. He traveled there for work and it was a long 720 hours. The hubs and I have been an item for 11 years and the longest we've been apart before this point was a mere 7 days. But we got through it and I'm super happy to have him back home safe and sound.

So as to not have the time drag on and be super lonely I tried to keep very busy. Thankfully I was blessed with a couple great trips to NOLA, lots of time with my family, plenty of photo shoots and lots of projects around the house. As you can imagine this has kept me quite busy! Now that life is settling back down a bit, at least routine wise, I'll be a better blogger again.

I'll share some great photos my hubby took with a little point-and-shoot camera on his international trek.

Have you ever had to be away from your sweetie for a long period of time? I don't know how military wives do it! Thank goodness for Skype!

Hello out there! I know you must have thought I vanished.
It was a busy week and I feel like soon I should be back on blogging track.

I just returned from spending a few days in New Orleans, one of my favorite cities and of course it was a great time. As always the case when I visit, our trip was filled with tasty meals. Before heading home I had the chance to dine at Lüke, one of John Besh's restaurants. We popped in for lunch and the chef himself stopped by too. The food at Lüke was excellent and I'd highly recommend it if you are ever in town.

John Besh himself made a pit stop at our table to say hi and I got him to autograph a cookbook to me. I'm really excited because a few of the recipes from the menu are in the book, so it will be fun to try them out at home. And if you aren't in town perhaps the cookbook would be a great addition to your kitchen! The photos in the book are beautiful and I love that it tells a bit about the Louisiana culture. Of course each and every recipe in the book looks delish so it would be a wise investment for any foodie.

When I wed my sweetheart I was convinced I didn't need a videographer and in a last minute rush once coming to my senses I was forced to hire a "so called professional" who did a less than ideal job. This past week has been just great. So many wonderful things going on, I feel so very blessed. For the weekend I have plans to work on some projects around my house. Had a great week and this weekend is amazing thus far. The sun is out here and while it is hot, hot, hot I'm still excited to see some rays. We haven't ironed out plans for the day but I think we'll be playing a round of putt-putt...wish me luck!

This week hasn't been too eventful or exciting but sometimes that is good. This weekend will be fun however. We are attending the wedding of two of our friends (I went to school with her, hubby went to school with him) tonight. Tomorrow I get to take photos of sweet 6 month old. I don't think there are a lot of father's reading my blog but I know that you guys have a father (or father figure) in your life. So happy Father's Day to them!

Let me tell you a bit about my dad...
He's protective of his girls (me, my sister and my mom) in a lot of ways. With the men in our lives (my sister and I only) he's always looked out for us and only wanted the best guys for us. When it comes to school and career choices he encourages us to do what we love and strive to be happy first. No matter where we travel he'll always check our tires before we go and make sure our car's fluids are okay. He always wants only the best for us and for that I am so thankful.

My dad was anti-trans fats before food distributors had to mark their hydrogenated oils on the nutritional label by government mandate. Before Dr. Oz was talking about high fructose corn syrup my dad was trying to find a shop locally that carried Mexican Coca-cola (it is made with cane sugar). Jamie Oliver wasn't on TV preaching about organic foods when my dad was scouring the grocery store for Horizon Milk. And a grass fed, free range farm was located before most of the population knew they existed. No, my dad is not psychic he is just always looking out for what's best for him and those around him. This is evidenced by the emails with links directing us to the healthiest options and latest breakthroughs. Mildly annoying...sometimes. Thoughtful...always.

So today I've conjured up a great treat for my pops. An entire meal made from scratch. Not a single processed item. Nothing from a box. Every single ingredient is in its natural form first. Organic eggs, free-range chicken, real sugar and fresh veggies grown locally. Here's what's on the menu*:

Fresh black bean salsa
Gaucamole
Chicken Enchiladas (I made the flour tortillas myself!)
Homemade Chocolate Icecream
From Scratch Dark Chocolate Caramel Bacon Brownies

If I get the chance tomorrow I'll be whipping up some fresh sweet tea (that is how we do it down south) but if not the only "slipup" on the menu will be Dos Equis Lager and Mexican Coca Cola.

I have a feeling my dad will popping by to take a peek at the menu.

*Obviously I haven't eaten these items yet so I'm not sure if they are worth sharing but I sure hope they are. If so I'll pass them along to you guys next week.

Summer Reading

Our city's library has always had a summer reading program where children can sign up and receive a record sheet and prize chart. For each tier completed a trinket of some sort is awarded: a bookmark, a free Happy Meal from McDonald's, tokens for the local Chuck E. Cheese. Each summer as a child, I'd eagerly sign up and set to complete all the tiers. I was a bookworm so this seemed just too good to be true!

I'm too old to participate now but I still find myself reading more during the summer. Nothing goes better with the dog days of summer than the crashing waves, a beach chair and a stack of books. I've put together my very own Summer Reading List (which is really just the books I plan to read before the summer is over:

As a lifelong Louisiana resident it comes as no surprise that the tragedy that has unfolded over the past few weeks is really hurting my heart. Each day new images and news bring me a bit more sadness and leave me feeling a bit more helpless.

Generations of fishermen who are following the only trade their family has ever known are jobless. Innocent animals are swimming in the effects of our human error and meeting their demise. Our delicate marshes and waterways despite efforts are being flooded with oil and our native plants are faltering. The beaches lining the coast show signs of the spill as tarballs wash ashore. Each day and hour that passes makes the situation more dire and leaves the gulf coast (and the world) wondering just how much damage will be done. And we all are praying that a solution is found before hurricane season rears its head.

I don't like feeling helpless. Seeing these things unfold around me makes me want to find a way to do my part to help. So I have decided to offer a photo print of mine and donate 100% of the proceeds to the Audobon Society who is helping preserve wetlands, heal animals and clean up the mess. Please help our coast by purchasing a print or donating directly to one of the organizations aiding in relief.

Illustrator Love: Lorelay Bove

Back in March we went to NOMA to check out the Dreams Come True: The Art of the Classic Fairy Tales From the Walt Disney Catalogue (see more about the trip here). There was so much amazing art work to be seen and I learned of some new and amazing talents. One of which is Lorelay Bove. This young lady interned at Pixar and as since gone on to become a visual development artist at Disney. She worked on The Princess and the Frog and takes inspiration from another one of my favorite illustrators Mary Blair.

I've been holding off on introducing you guys to her amazing work because her Etsy store was a bit sparse. But now it is stocked with some new work so I thought today was the perfect day! I especially love the Laduree print (which probably comes as NO suprise).

Faith: A Cold Glass of Water

Today I'm launching the series I spoke of a few weeks ago. I've been struggling with getting the first post online because of so many really silly reasons: lack a good title for the series, lack of a graphic, etc., etc. But God has been putting it on my heart to just post. So I am.

I began writing about my faith a couple of months ago more as a record for myself. I'd have these fleeting thoughts so I decided elaborating on them and chronicling them would be good for my own journey. I started a personal (private) blog where I'd jot down my thoughts. But a few weeks ago the idea to share them came into my heart + mind. I'm aware that posts on faith may lead some readers to close the window of my blog. I'm also aware that I'm not the best writer in the world or a great religious scholar. I am however a Christian who thinks it is important to share. If these posts touch even one person then sharing them (which is oh so scary) will be worth it.

Some times I open the fridge only to find my beverage options to be a couple bottles of water. Maybe I wanted a Vitawater or a Dr. Pepper. Perhaps I was craving something fruity and flavorful and those most simple beverages seem so boring and bland.

Today I had just this experience. I'd fixed a chicken salad sandwich on white bread (felt kind of guilty about the white bread) and plain potato chips. When searching the fridge for something to drink I was not surprised to find only bottled water--I knew that was all that was there. Reluctantly I selected a bottle. Munching on my sandwich and chips was quite comforting as it was a great meal. After a few bites I twisted open my bottle of water and took a gulp. And then it hit me that although it wasn't what I'd hoped to drink with this meal it was just perfect. Icy cold and refreshing. Simple and pure.

This little happening made me think of how many times this same thing happens in life--in my life. I'm (we're) faced with an overwhelming amount of options each day. Choosing what to drink is just one of them. Many times bright packaging, tingling carbonation, and limitless flavors lead me to crave anything but a simple glass of water. Some times I'll go for the showy option. Other times I'll settle on a simple H₂O with the key word being settle. How many times though does the most simple beverage available not only quench my thirst but satisfy me beyond my expectations? Quite often.

Although aqua satisfies my libation longing more often than not, it still never manages to make "my favorite beverages" list. And even though experiences like the one I had to today happen fairly often, I am still surprised each time they occur. It's as if my brain doesn't want to believe that this simple substance can bring so much pleasure. My human mind has grown accustomed to man's struggle for happiness. "It just can't be this easy," is implanted in my mind. But it really is some times.

How often do I search and search for something to fill the voids in my life? Avoiding all the easy options that may as well slap me in the face, I seek something showy and grandiose because surely that is better than the easy, simple solutions. There has to be some benefit to pursuing the glittering prize. But like settling on water when hoping for a Coke, most times a simple pure choice can be most satisfying.

This little revelation made me think of the state of the world today. So many of us are looking for that sparkling trophy that will make us feel complete. Voids are filled with the biggest house on the block, the priciest car, the latest gadget or the handsomest husband. All of these things aren't easy to obtain. They cost money we may not have, demand financing that will consume us, or require energy that is best spent elsewhere. These lofty ambitions seem like the best option for making us happy when actually a simple, pure and easily obtainable source is the only true way. Jesus.

There is nothing more pure than our Heavenly Father. And he is easily obtainable and it is simple to find him. A simple prayer and belief itself can bring more happiness than any inanimate object. He can quench a thirst better than anything money can buy. Many people settle on The Father after searching through stores and bars for happiness, only after chasing sparkling objects. But like an icy cold bottle of water in the back corner of the fridge Jesus is always waiting. He knows that once led to this perfect glass of satisfaction nothing will ever quench your thirst quite the same ever again.

Even after sampling fizzy colas, fruity juices and sparkling sodas I know that when I am dehydrated and need to feel refreshed the only place to turn is clear, clean water. When I am down and discouraged to content my soul I must to go back to what is simple and solid: My Lord.

Despite the rainy days we've had here in southern Louisiana I have been pretty cheery! My darling husband celebrated another year and despite feeling otherwise I have accomplished some things this week. I'm very excited to have a long weekend.

And I'm very excited to share some things with you too:
First be SURE to drop by The Bright Side Project this weekend (and next week too). Have I mentioned this before? You are going to want to be there!
Also, I am going to launch a new "series" on my blog next week. It is something that I've had "in the works" for a while and my heart is saying "just do it!"

So much to be grateful for this week (and every week!).
Below are a few things I'm grateful for:

--The promise our Creator has given that made a death in the family a little easier to bear. Although my cousin will be dearly missed I know that he is truly living now.
--My husband being granted another great year. We much cherish each day
--The fact that (for the first time in a long time) when school let out this week I didn't wish I was a teacher...just to have a few months off. I am finally at a point where I am beginning to feel at "home" and in the right place for me.
--A close knit family. There is absolutely nothing in the world that is more important to me.

I hope that you all have a great extended weekend. I'd also like to express my gratitude for the men and women who serve our country. Those who have given the ultimate sacrifice. The families who are deprived so we can be free. And those who have the courage to stand up for what is true and just.

I'm sooooo excited that SATC 2 will be released to theatres tonight. My sis and I are going to do our best to squeeze into a midnight feature but who knows if tickets are still left at this point. The preview gets me so excited...

I did a little virtual shopping in honor of the release and came up with two Carrie-esque assembles if you are so inclined to have your own SATC moment. Since I know that this weekend is a holiday weekend for those of us in the states I wanted to send out a major announcement before you guys signed off early for the weekend (if you are lucky enough to do so). On The Bright Side Project this month the theme has been Blogger's Delight. We have worked with some of our favorite bloggers to learn their favorite items, must haves and with list things. Miss B and I will each be taking a turn as the finale for the month.

My hubby and I toyed with the idea of keeping chickens last year--hens. The thought of fetching a basket of freshly laid eggs and serving them in the summer time along side fresh sliced tomatoes from our garden seemed divine. Yes we live in a neighborhood, but it allows for kept chicks. We got really excited about it and were thisclose to doing it when reality began to set in a bit (aka: my mom and sister laughed at the idea and proceeded to tell him how chickens are messy/gross and the eggs taste funny).

I was officially scared off. Then my mom sends me a link to Heather Bullard's new chicken coop and I about passed out from the severe cuteness. What is she (my mom) trying to do to me?!?!? I think at this time it is not a good idea to keep a chicken coop in our yard. We do have room and the idea seems appealing on the surface but there are so many reasons not to at this point it will remain a dream. One day I hope to have a miniature animal farm of my own (miniature farm, not animals. although miniature animals would be great too). Yep I am a city girl through and through but if I found a nice patch of land on the outskirts (still really close to Target) of town I'd happily raise animals of all kinds!

My tastespotting addiction yielded a very beautiful result several weeks ago when I clicked upon the stunningly lovely La Tartine Gourmande. Hours upon hours can be spent reading her tales, drooling over her recipes and sighing at the sheer brilliance of her photography + styling.

Danger, danger! Don't even think of clicking this link unless you are prepared to spend hours loving the site for its fabulousness while simultaneously loathing it for making your cooking (life, recipes, photography...insert any number of terms here) look quite bland!

BEST Burgers

My dad makes the best burgers in town...the best burgers around really! Summer time is the perfect time to fire up his grill and I love to reap the benefits. I found this cute print by Kelly Lasserre and thought it was too cute not to share. Besides being cute it is a perfect reminder that the little things can really make each day!

Helium Hopefuls

I found it so interesting ( + sad ) when I found out that the world's supply of helium is diminishing--add that to the list of things on the "endangered list." We all know I love a good balloon and a lack of helium could put a damper on things. But fear not! Clementine Henrion has a great solution in Hellum Eternal. What kid (or adult, ahem) wouldn't love a few of these in their room--balloons are great for every day!

JERRY: Kramer, these balloons aren't gonna stay filled till New Year's!
